The official publication of the Texas Council for Social Studies (TXCSS), an affiliate of the National Council for the Social Studies. This juried journal includes professional articles relating to social studies education and lesson plans and activities that have been used successfully in the classrooms of Texas.

The Texan provides up-to-date information about TXCSS and pertinent social studies information important to classroom teachers.

The Social Studies Texan is published three times yearly: fall/winter, spring, and summer. Institutional subscriptions are available for $40 yearly. Individual copies of the publication can be purchased for $10.00 per copy. To purchase a copy, contact the editor, Dr. Jose Maria Herrera (publications@txcss.net). The Social Studies Texan (ISSN 1056-4675) is indexed by ERIC/CHESS in Current Index to Journals in Education.

 JOURNAL OF SOCIAL STUDIES & HISTORY EDUCATION

A peer-reviewed online academic journal sponsored by The Texas Council for the Social Studies and The University of Houston

Purpose: The Journal of Social Studies and History Education seeks to transform teaching and learning of social studies and history through the dissemination of critical and scholarly educational research. The journal will contain articles documenting such investigations, academic book reviews, editorials, columns and other resources.

Description: The Journal of Social Studies and History Education is a peer-reviewed academic journal published 2-3 times per year. We seek manuscripts that address issues and document research tied to social studies and history education- in pre-service teacher education, in-service teaching and learning, and professional development. Specific themes are announced for the upcoming academic year. We seek manuscripts from educators at all levels with the understanding that an academic focus be the design.

Manuscripts: Manuscripts should be submitted as an attachment to the editor via email at cswhite@uh.edu. The author’s name and contact information should be placed only on the title page. The manuscript should be in Microsoft Word, 12pt font, double-spaced, numbering at least 15 pages (not including title page or references). References should be in APA style.
